HISTORY
Molde is a municipality in Romsdal in Møre og Romsdal.
The name is believed to come from a Norse farm name, Moldar, a plural form of mold.
A person from the city of Molde is called a Moldenser. Molde changed status from charging station when the place got its city status in 1742 to great opposition from Bergen and Trondheim.
From Varden there is a view of the so-called Molde panorama which counts 222 peaks, and the idyll of the 1890s with small houses and large, abundant gardens, gave Molde the nickname «City of Roses».
Molde is visited by a lot of tourists, and it is most hectic during the jazz festival in mid-July.
Nearby tourist attractions are Trollstigen, Trollveggen, Atlanterhavsvegen, Raumabanen, Ergan kystfort, several rock carvings and the evacuated fishing villages Bjørnsund and Håholmen.
